For façade design, architects need a fast and intuitive tool that meets the requirements for the design of the building envelope and allows testing of different designs as well as daily adjustments. For this purpose, Allplan offers an extended façade module for the contemporary design of building envelopes, which has been significantly improved and which, instead of an opening element that has to be created each time, uses an already predefined window/door SmartPart. The new function speeds up the creation and modification of façades and façade/opening elements. Architects benefit from improved performance, optimized operation and the extended range of functions, so that they can plan façades faster, more intuitively and more flexibly.

Regardless of if buildings and structures are regularly shaped or more and more individually shaped to fit well in the environment, there are demands to improve efficiency and effectiveness of design processes. The new version Allplan, offers enhanced tools that allow architects and engineers to create and also iterate on their design more rapidly. This includes improvements for creation, modifications of circular and spline components, its connections, modeling and adjusting openings and recesses in such irregular components. Direct object modification is now available for further building components such as slab, foundation slab, niche/recess and corner window to ensure quick and efficient adaptation. Enhancements for the rabbet component helps to improve detailing of the openings. All of these improvements help architects and engineers to accelerate design workflows, but at the same time improve quality of the drawings and models.

GIS CONNECTOR

SIMPLIFIED GIS INTEGRATION FOR OPTIMAL AEC WORKFLOWS

The successful execution of almost all AEC projects, regardless of their size or the working method used, requires the integration of data from Geographic Information Systems (GIS) such as terrains and surrounding buildings. It´s important for architects, engineers, civil engineers and construction specialists to be able to fit their designs, buildings or civil structures well into the surroundings. Allplan provides new workflows for smooth integration of the design to its context, by a cloud-powered GIS connector tool with its effective and automated process of extracting relevant data. The GIS connector, powered by 3DCityLoader services, provides access to various open GIS platforms and sources, which covers different Europe regions, but also including Worldwide Global surface support. From a selected Area of interest, terrain data, buildings and street contours can be imported to Allplan. With chosen quality parameters and object type, terrain can be imported in different object types, which reflects certain workflows of architects and engineers. Civil engineers may also appreciate import as Proxy DTM terrain, which can be further processed and adopted by the terrain manager and further functionalities of the Road/Terrain module.

In this way, real GIS “data information” can be integrated into Allplan in a time-saving and simple manner with the highest level of detail from the construction environment and also taken into account at an earlier stage of the project.

This is especially important for Associative Legends in processing large and complex projects, in a teamwork environment where lots of people are working at the same time on different parts or floors of the building. Architectural Associative Legends now report quantities from the specified model (drawing files) regardless of the state of the loaded model. In addition, graphical support for curved objects in legends has been implemented.

This provides consistency and full control of Quantity Take-Off via Legends in a Teamwork environment, allows better coordination, and supports superior design quality.

CONTENT CONNECTOR

Searching for and manually importing content such as 3D assets or external materials for various BIM design and visualization tasks is often tedious and takes up a lot of time in the daily routine of architects and multi-disciplinary consultants. The new Content Connector provides Allplan users with an effective, web-based workflow, which accelerates and automates the import and creation of customized content. Special developments have been realized for the US market, such as locking based on the attribute “rebar status”, associative legends to support typical workflows of rebar fabricators in the USA. The rounding functionality and dots for bars are especially relevant for civil engineers.

IFC MODEL

USING IFC MODELS AS REFERENCE – QUICK CHECK WITHOUT IMPORTING

To support design in context workflows, provide smoother data exchange and make collaboration and coordination tasks more efficient, the new version Allplan extends its referencing capabilities. Instead of importing IFC files, these can be used and viewed in the Allplan environment as an external reference, for example to view architecture, model and add MEP, coordinate professions and disciplines or to simply align with existing models and structures more efficiently.

IFC EXPORT

PREPARATION OF THE BIM ROAD MODEL FOR IFC 4.3 DATA EXPORT

In many new construction projects, but also in rehabilitation projects, the road model is required in open file formats, such as the OPEN BIM IFC format. The IFC standard prescribes a uniform model data structure and enables interdisciplinary model availability for all stakeholders (single source of truth). In order to meet the future requirements of the construction industry, the BIM road model can be divided into logical roadway or construction sections with the new Allplan version, the roadway elements can be assigned any attributes and the model can be prepared for export in IFC 4.3 format. The IFC model is generated independently of the possible model representation styles, which means that all assigned model attributes are always updated with the IFC structure. With this feature, Allplan simplifies the BIM working method in road design and promotes the targeted exchange with and further processing by design partners without loss of information and independent of the software solutions used.

BIM in infrastructure projects is becoming increasingly important. buildingSMART offers the exchange format 4.3 for this purpose. Allplan now supports the import of IFC 4.3. for bridges, roads and rails from third-party software. With the new version, the user imports an IFC file and Allplan automatically recognizes the 4.3 format. Additional options such as mapping or geometry specifications can be set. With the IFC 4.3 format, you improve the quality of data exchange and thus the design quality of BIM infrastructure projects.

ROAD DESIGN

TIME-SAVING PARAMETRIC MODELING OF ROAD INTERSECTIONS

The modeling of road intersections was already possible in previous Allplan versions. With the new solution for parametric modeling of road intersections in Allplan, type T and X intersections can now be created easily. Due to the parametric procedure, both the position of the intersection point and the geometry of the turnings can be adjusted at any time. The cross-section and the site plan of the intersection area are derived directly from the model and simply set off with just a few clicks. Parametric modeling of road intersections offers a variety of advantages: in addition to considerable time savings, even in the case of geometry changes, as well as improved user-friendliness, sources of error can be significantly reduced with the new function.

It is always a challenge to produce BIM reinforcement models and detailing drawings to the required quality standards within a reasonable timeframe whilst maintaining a satisfactory margin. Ensuring quality without hurting productivity and profitability is a constant challenge for engineering and detailing companies for every reinforcement project, regardless of the project type and location. ALLPLAN understands this, which is why Allplan has been specifically developed to overcome common rebar detailing issues.

With Allplan Bridge the next big step is taken. Two parametric technologies have been combined to provide a parametric design-to-build solution, namely the parametric modeling solution of Allplan Bridge and PythonParts in Allplan. In Allplan Bridge reinforcement sets are defined, primarily for reinforcement design and code checking, and these reinforcement sets are now parametrically connected with the PythonPart technology in Allplan. Not only is the geometry of the longitudinal, shear and torsion reinforcement transferred to Allplan but also all other information, like position of bars, number of bars and bar diameters. As a result, a fully parametric design-to-build workflow is possible, which results in faster and less error-prone work, and enables higher quality, productivity and profitability at the same time.

GROUNDWORKS

INTUITIVE MODELING OF EXCAVATION

Architects and multi-disciplinary consultants often need to define an initial proposal for an excavation in order to obtain an estimate at a very early stage of the project. Civil engineers can use Allplan to design the excavation and shoring elements in great detail to determine their feasibility. In addition, a detailed 3D model is needed for the contractor, including data for excavators with GPS-controlled systems. The drafts person creating execution plans is enabled to model earthwork elements in a high level of detail while maintaining the flexibility to modify parts of the model even in later construction phases. In addition to the excavation, some improvements have been made to the bored pile wall, soldier pile wall and the ground anchors.

FORMWORK PLANNING FOR WALLS

NEW BIM2FORM ADD-ON FOR COST-EFFECTIVE PLANNING OF FORMWORK SYSTEMS

In many companies, formwork planning is usually still done either manually or using various tools available on the market. Many construction companies or general contractors therefore outsource formwork planning to external service providers, which in some cases involves considerable costs and makes it difficult to control the course of the project. The new formwork planning Add On tool for Allplan enables the automated assignment of formwork wall components. Currently, the formwork system MEVA Mammut 350 of the manufacturer MEVA can be used. In the future, Allplan users will be enabled to plan with formwork systems from different manufacturers at a fraction of the cost that would be incurred if they were to place these services out.

Further to Allplan’s well-known comprehensive quantity take-off functionality, there is now an Allplan cloud-based solution to conveniently generate quantity take-off information on-site or whenever needed during the planning process. Now you can easily extract the quantities contained in a BIM model in Bimplus, for example, to estimate the materials needed for different construction phases. Easily select the objects, in the 3D model, that you wish to calculate then select the QTO button to instantly obtain the volume/area of those objects to be constructed. Now you can also easily export the QTO Table to MS Excel for added convenience. This digital approach offers substantial time savings versus manual approaches together with more accurate data, and reduced risks of errors, avoiding wasted materials and additional costs.

Precast plants have increasing difficulties finding qualified personnel for production. This makes a high automation level more important. Ideally, the production of basic reinforcement is fully automated while always using the latest machine features. Existing automated processes are extended in Allplan specifically for mesh welding systems. When creating automated reinforcement, Allplan now takes into account the concrete cover of profiles at precast joints. This innovation supports error-free, accelerated workflows and thus counteracts the increasing shortage of skilled workers.

For creating automated workflows or intelligent objects, Visual Scripting is a very effective way for users to visually generate scripts without programming knowledge. To make Visual Scripting even more intuitive and easy to use, usability has been improved in several areas. For example, there are now new visual group and node states, canvas navigation is easier, and a search function has been introduced. These optimizations make Visual Scripting easier and faster to use, helping to automate workflows or create custom parametric objects with minimal effort.

 

ISSUE MANAGEMENT

TECHNICAL PREVIEW: BIMCOLLAB PLUGIN IN ALLPLAN FOR ISSUE MANAGEMENT

In many BIM projects, issue management is performed with the easy-to-use issue collaboration platform BIMcollab. The exchange of issues via BCF files can lead to inconsistencies in the assignment of different values. Allplan has a BIMcollab plugin in the Technical Preview so that users can connect to their BIMcollab project directly from Allplan via an additional palette and create and edit issues without BCF import/export. Seamless integration of the BIMcollab issue workflow into Allplan eliminates the time-consuming and error prone BCF import/export process. The plugin provides full BIMcollab functionality in Allplan. This saves time and helps to avoid inconsistencies in the BIM process.

EFFICIENT WEB-BASED DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT

One of the basic requirements for any construction project is the effective and efficient distribution of plans between project teams. However, this can quickly become a time-consuming, error-prone and repetitive task. With Allplan Exchange, Allplan offers a web-based plan distribution tool specifically designed to manage the creation and distribution of various formats and provide automatic change notifications via email. The platform provides a 2D drawing download environment and tracks sending and download activity for inclusion in a report. This provides visibility of actions to all stakeholders, making it an indispensable tool for managing and communicating 2D drawing information.

\ PROVISION FOR VOIDS IMPROVEMENTS

The Provision for Void functionality allows the automated creation of recesses in building components based on 3D solids. With Allplan, it is now possible to create recesses in curved components. In addition, openings can also be created for foundation components (strip foundation and floor slab), which makes the provision for void tools more robust and powerful.

\ PARAMETRIC SMARTPART OPTIMIZATIONS AND EXTENDED LIBRARY OF OBJECTS

The design of folding and sliding doors has been improved and automated and the Allplan library was extended with new parametric SmartParts components such as corner trim, trapezoidal sheet, drainage channel, circular ramp with cross slope, ladder with back protection, segmental arch and space-saving doors. These improvements and extensions expand the range of use cases and help to automate and speed up designing processes.

\ IMPROVEMENTS FOR VIEWS AND SECTIONS

Create derivations out the model using views and sections is essential for architects and engineers when delivering detailed plans and layouts. In order to provide faster and more flexible workflow, Clipping path labeling, Section & View labeling options were improved including multi-modification possibilities for Clipping Path for customizing and adjusting clipping paths & Views & Sections.

\ IMPROVEMENTS FOR PDF WORKFLOWS

PDF has firmly established its place in BIM processes for the quick overview of information. With Allplan there is now no limit to the size of the PDF plan that you can import or export. PDF files are also supported by many external tools which offer, for example, management of exported geometry, such as with Bluebeam Revu. For Bluebeam Revu, geometry of spaces/rooms are also exported from Allplan. As many users have very specific requirements for PDF export settings, because of printing, long term archiving or other reasons, PDF export is also extended to support newer archiving formats such as PDF/A-1b and PDF/A-2.

\ BIMPLUS WORKFLOW FOR THE APPROVAL PROCESS

Construction managers, architects, structural and civil engineers as well as BIM managers need a workflow for the formal review and approval of documents and models. The new approval process with Bimplus provides users with an efficient workflow for this.

With the new version, Allplan users are no longer limited to one office resource or to accessing the company’s own network but have the freedom to create multiple office resource pools in the cloud for large companies with their own resources.

\ INFORMATION MANAGEMENT WITH OBJECT PALETTE

With the improved object palette, Allplan users can filter, sort or query models in complex projects with large amounts of data much faster; in addition, the sorting condition has been extended to apply up to 6 defined attributes, and with the support of color coding favorites, various analysis or control tasks can be performed more easily, quickly and flexibly to achieve the correct data quality of the models.

\ IMPROVEMENTS TO THE ALLPLAN WIZARDS

The handling of the Allplan wizards has been optimized: users can now switch seamlessly and without time delays between different wizards or transfer properties from another element, even if a function is currently being executed.

\ OPTIMIZATIONS FOR ATTRIBUTE SETS

The “Attribute Sets” function was introduced in Allplan. With the new version, attributes have been extended and made more flexible to address all IFC entities and predefined types. Attribute sets can also be enriched directly in the property palette.

\ ATTRIBUTE UPDATE FROM ANOTHER ALLPLAN PROJECT

In order to save time and simplify the process of re-using attributes, self-defined attributes from another Allplan project can be overtaken to the current project by a new update function.

\ NEW PROJECT CUSTOM PATHS

Previously Allplan Workgroup Manager and single client projects users were limited to a predefined project storage or path. With this new feature freedom is provided to select custom storage paths. For single client projects, users can benefit from an intelligent project cache mechanism for faster response and access times.

Customers with sensitive data need full access control throughout all applications. Especially for larger customers, this functionality strengthens data protection measures, achieves compliance with industry regulations, and enhances overall security by leveraging an identity provider.
